Community Center

Year: 2015

Status: Study

Rather than combine all the functions and programs of a community facility into a single monolithic building, my proposal breaks up the program and distributes them across four separate volumes. Each building has a unique structure, facade, and design– while some get thinner and more transparent as one moves up, others get thicker and more opaque. The fact that the buildings must connect with each other creates moments of opportunity where something new can happen– these sky bridges are just as important as the alleys and courtyards that divide the buildings. The four buildings, and the all spaces in between the four buildings, create a dynamic and unpredictable experience on the site.
